From a long wandering in the desert we have returned.
House has always been about a sometimes lovable misanthrope who doesn't fit in and his battles with a surrounding that attempts to force him him into subjugation. At least it was, until it turned into a reality tv contest and then something else. For like way too many episodes. But anyhow.
It's back on the thread. It may not be the payoff some are looking for, but it fits. The world isn't about winners and losers. It's about how you let history change who you are.
And now the writers have earned themselves a clean slate. What will come now?

So, having finished the series now, I have to say I'm disappointed it was canceled. In the early seasons it there are some great sequences, but there's a lot to criticize as well. But in this last season the show really focused it's voice, expunged most of what I found objectionable and tightened in to a very polished storytelling style. There's one script flaw in this season, the most common contrivance of crime shows: moving beyond believable probabilities to connect the characters directly to the crimes. But looking past that the editing reached the sort of fluid combined experiential storytelling I like best. Shame they couldn't get money to make at least one or two more series. |
